LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT

Secure Data Destruction

Data on a retired device is a liability until it’s gone — verifiably, auditably, and on the right side of your compliance posture. CSAT Solutions wipes, degausses, or shreds data-bearing devices under ISO 27001-certified controls, ties every destruction event to the device’s serial number, and issues certificates of destruction on request.

OUR APPROACH

The Part You Can’t Get Wrong

Data destruction is where a lifecycle program either holds up to audit or doesn’t.

We’ve been handling data-bearing electronics from our Houston facility since 1992, and our operation runs under an ISO 27001-certified information security management system — so the controls around how drives are received, tracked, processed, and destroyed are documented, audited, and consistent across every program we run.

THREE METHODS

Matched to the Media and the Posture

The right method depends on the media type, the residual value, and the regulatory posture — not the cheapest option.

01 — WIPE

Software Wipe

Multi-pass overwrite of HDDs and SSDs to certified standards, with per-drive verification — best when the drive itself still has residual value for harvesting or resale.

02 — DEGAUSS

Degauss

High-strength magnetic erasure for magnetic media — the drive is no longer usable, but materials are intact for downstream recycling.

03 — DESTROY

Physical Destruction

Shred or crush of drives and storage media where regulatory or contractual requirements demand the media never leave intact.

WHAT GETS DESTROYED

Every Data-Bearing Component

Including the storage inside devices that aren’t obviously “storage devices.”

Hard Disk Drives (HDD)

Magnetic platters wiped, degaussed, or physically destroyed depending on disposition path.

Solid-State Drives (SSD)

Wiped using SSD-appropriate methods, or shredded — degaussing is not effective on flash, so we don’t pretend otherwise.

USB & Removable Media

Thumb drives, SD cards, and removable storage destroyed at the same standard as fixed media.

Mobile & Tablet Devices

Mobile devices wiped or destroyed depending on residual value and client policy.

Network & Telecom Gear

Switches, routers, and telecom equipment with persistent storage handled to the same destruction standard.

Embedded Storage

Storage embedded in laptops, printers, MFPs, POS, and specialty devices — included in the destruction scope, not overlooked.

THE DESTRUCTION WORKFLOW

Sealed Intake to Certificate of Destruction

Every step recorded against the serial. No gaps.

01 — INTAKE

Sealed Intake

Devices are received, scanned in by serial, and logged into the secure-destruction queue with chain-of-custody recorded at the dock.

02 — IDENTIFY

Identify Media

Every data-bearing component on the unit is identified — including embedded storage that lives outside the main drive bay.

03 — DESTROY

Destroy

The appropriate method — wipe, degauss, or shred — is performed against the serial, by trained operators inside the secure area.

04 — CERTIFY

Certificate & Report

A certificate of destruction can be issued on request, with the destruction event recorded against the device’s serial for audit.

INFORMATION SECURITY MANAGEMENT

Audited Controls, Not Just Promises

Our Information Security Management System is certified to ISO 27001 — the international standard for managing information security risk. That means our controls around physical security, access control, asset handling, and destruction processes are formally documented and independently audited every year.

WHY CSAT

Why CSAT for Data Destruction

ISO 27001 Certified

Documented, audited controls across every step that touches data-bearing media.

Right Method for the Media

Wipe, degauss, or shred — chosen for the media type and the regulatory posture, not the cheapest option.

Serialized & Auditable

Every destruction event is tied to a serial number, with certificates of destruction available on request.

Houston-Based, In-House

Destruction happens inside our facility under CSAT staff — no off-site subcontracting of data-bearing devices.

CONNECTED SERVICES

Part of the Full Lifecycle Program

Hard Drive Screening & Imaging

When drives have residual value, secure wipe is followed by screening, testing, and imaging.

Asset Recovery

Refurbishment programs route every data-bearing device through destruction before anything else moves.

Responsible Recycling

Post-destruction, the remaining materials are routed to certified, responsibly-managed downstream recyclers.

Take the Data Risk Off the Table

Tell us about your retiring devices, your regulatory requirements, and your reporting needs. We’ll design a destruction program that holds up to audit — and lets you move on.
